dc.description.abstract | The Veracruz Basin is located along the eastern margin central Mexico, between
the Sierra Madre Oriental, the Transmexican Volcanic Belt and the Gulf of Mexico.
The sedimentary column consists of Mesozoic carbonates and Tertiary
siliciclastics, reaching a thickness of more than 12Km, for the main depocenter
and an area of about 23000km2.
Techniques and methods of sampling of the natural exploratory well gas are
exposed in operation and development In the present study. The results of the
analyses of 130 gas samples and 20 of condensates of approximately 70 wells of
the area are integrated. The application of basic isotopic techniques along with hires
methods (Chromatography, Isotopic and Diamandoids) have identified
composicionales variations of origin, maturity, and thermal evolution of gases. The
biogenic gas detection in commercial volumes, indicates the presence of favorable
anoxic conditions for the generation of this gas in the great principal deposits, that
load in situ and laterally to the sandy developments of Miocene Superior and the
Pliocene.
Once analyzed the potential of source rocks and its correlation with hydrocarbons
of the basin, determining the diagenesis of these hydrocarbons. The analysis of
interpretation of the different components from the natural gas (methane, ethane,
propane, i-butane and n-butane), integrated to the geologic context, allowed us to
establish their correlation with deep source rocks, and to give an idea of the
generation processes, accumulation, thermal evolution and geographic and
stratigraphic distribution of these gases. Being possible to establish the level of
certainty of the petroliferous systems and its relation with plays producing and
prospects of the area.
Model of the petroleum system 1D and 2D main stage of migration of the
thermogenic gas suggests it happens for 10 Ma, contributing to the filling of the
structures and sandy bodies of the Miocene, that due to the efficiency of the
migration, accumulation and preservation, still foretell great volumes to explore.
Therefore the Veracruz basin of still owns a great not associated dry deep rock
gas potential, demonstrated by the division, thermal evolution and cracking of
present gases in the reservoir at the moment operated. Proposing areas with
potential to contain light oil and thermogenic gas, towards deeper objectives to the
traditionally producing ones.
