The author of this article makes an approach to the political-cultural discussion held by Emilia Prieto Tugores in her essays, published during the decades from 1930 to 1970 in national journals and newspapers. The aim is to recognize both the critical point of view and the revolutionary political activity in her writings, begun before Costa Rican women get the right to vote. This article is part of a research in process about Prieto’s essay works.En este artículo se realiza un acercamiento al debate político-cultural sostenido por Emilia Prieto Tugores en ensayos publicados durante los decenios del treinta al setenta del siglo XX, en revistas y periódicos de circulación nacional. La finalidad es reconocer la visión crítica y el quehacer político contestatario que se plasman a través de su escritura, iniciada antes de que las mujeres costarricenses se ganaran el derecho al sufragio. El trabajo forma parte de una investigación en proceso, sobre la obra ensayística de Prieto.
