Resumen
Faced with the immense world population that is sheltered in cities and the growing demand for renewable energy, the use of solar envelopes, which can guarantee access to solar energy, is a fundamental and indispensable concept for cities in the 21st century. Thus, the objective of this article is to carry out a literature review that addresses the solar envelope and its application within the urban fabric. The review will cover the available conceptualization and application studies. As a research methodology, the qualitative descriptive method was adopted, and as a technical procedure, the documentary and bibliographic research was carried out on the basis of available electronic portals. Sixteen published studies and classical texts were screened and analyzed. The results were contextualized and compared, revealing convergences and divergences between the studies. Although some authors highlight the importance of the use of the solar envelope technique and provide methodologies and software to generate them, in the project design phase, the great gap is evidenced when it is stated that there is no legislation in Brazilian cities which proposes and ensures access to the sun in buildings for an effective change in the Brazilian energy matrix
