Resumen
In this research, we discuss happiness in psychoanalytic theory. Using as reference the Freud's work and the writings of Jean Laplanche, we try to establish a relationship between death drive and happiness, questioning - above all - the supposed tendency of return to the inorganic. On the one hand, Freud and his research program marked by certain biologicism, an influence the thinking of the nineteenth century; on the other hand, Laplanche and his conception of sexual death drive, set in the context of the Theory of Generalized Seduction. However, the idea of mortification allowed to approach them. Freud and Laplanche understand that excess unbound energy could cause a kind of slow and silent illness in the individual, by the path of self-destructiveness , or even by excessive rigidity. Finally, we speculated that, taking into account the hypothesis of the death drive, happiness depends on a
psychic work that mediates between fragmentation and rigidity. Perhaps the process of analysis can contribute to the establish the location of the death drive in the cultural field. In the end, the death drive - as well as analysis - may be important to the happiness of the individual.
