Resumen
This article discusses the representation of scientific images, focusing its analysis on scientific dissemination, in the context of the democratization of knowledge generated in universities. This issue highlights the challenge for governments and the scientific community to make the content and results of research understandable to the non-specialist public. It starts from the assumption that the representation must be adequate to the context of use and to the audience, and that it must be accompanied by textual descriptions of the content, either in the form of abstract, subtitles, or key words. It aims to characterize scientific images and present the example of the Images of Knowledge Project, created in the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG) as an Extension action. The methodology has exploratory and descriptive objectives, with a qualitative approach and basic nature, and used the narrative review method of data collection. During the data analysis, a reflection was made about the professional practice in the Project in relation to the theory about image representation. The results bring a proposed methodology for the representation of information contained in scientific images, taking into consideration two contexts: a) research and scientific communication, and b) use in scientific dissemination. It is concluded that scientific images have the potential to facilitate scientific dissemination.
