Resumen
Patellar tendinopathy is a common chronic injury characterized by load-related pain
in the patellar tendon. In addition, it is a health condition that has a high prevalence
and results in several disabilities. Regarding treatment, eccentric training is an
accessible intervention that has shown positive results for the improvement of
disabilities related to other tendinopathies, especially with athletes, and has been
little studied in non-athletes. In this sense, the objective of the present literature
review was to investigate the effectiveness of eccentric training in improving
outcomes related to patellar tendinopathy in athletes and non-athletes. Searches
were performed in the following databases: MEDLINE, PEDro, SciELO and
Cochrane. A total of 132 articles were found, of which six were selected as relevant
studies after removing duplicates and analyzing titles, abstracts and the full text. It
was observed in two studies that the use of eccentric training in individuals with
patellar tendinopathy resulted in significant improvement in pain and disability. We
can conclude that eccentric training has achieved positive results. However, evidence
is still weak to support eccentric training recommendations to improve patellar
tendinopathy-related outcomes. Furthermore, the results of the present study must
be interpreted with caution, considering the small number of articles included and the
variability regarding the sample and the implemented protocols.
