Desempenho de funções sensório-motoras em crianças com transtornos do espectro autista: uma revisão de literatura

The autism spectrum disorders are characterized by some failures in the
socialization aspects, communication and behavior. Associated with this
symptomatology, children and adolescents with this type of spectrum may show
some sensory and motor deficits which can deep affect their life experiences and the
way it’s seen; it can also affect their social insertion. There have been a interest in
researchs with focus in sensory and motor functions in those with autistic spectrum
disorders once these functions are extremely requested in activities of daily living.
This study is aimed at discussing the sensory and motor functions performance in
this clientele through a literature review. The methodology adopted was consisted of
electronic searches of articles in the database from keywords related to the topic.
Upon selecting ten papers for this literature review, it was possible to point out that
the sensory and motor deficits is shown in several levels of intensity and has an
impact at an individual’s quality of life even if deficits are not universal characteristics
in this status. It was also noticed the necessity of having more surveys to know the
nature and extension of these failures; therefore, it would be possible to provide more
scientific foundation for health care professionals and services on their clinical
intervention for children and adolescents with autism spectrum disorder.
