Resumen
The big Brazilian cities, especially those that have experienced rapid population growth since the middle of last century, have shown little sign of abating in the power of population attraction and spatial dispersion of the population, especially for their immediate peripheries, which features an expansion in the level of Metropolitan switching. This article seeks to assess the current magnitude and the main features of the so called commuting, identified by commuting the resident population in the municipalities of each Federation Unit working or studying at the Metropolitan. To this end, the sample microdata of the last Demographic Census were used, including combinations of variables "municipality of residence and work / study". Results indicated generally strong growth in the metropolitan commuting, especially in relation to the closest municipalities and involving shorter distances from the nucleus.
