Resumen
Currently, several methods are used for the treatment of diseases, whether congenital or acquired, as in neurological cases. It is known that neurological diseases generate important changes that compromise functionality, contributing to activity limitation and restriction of individual participation, impacting on their quality of life. Many professionals use the Pilates Method (PM) in the treatment of adult patients with neurological sequelae. However, at a scientific level, there are still few studies that prove the benefits of Pilates in the therapeutic approach to patients with neurological deficits. Thus, the objective of the present study was to carry out a literature review with the purpose of investigating the effects of PM in the rehabilitation of adults with neurological diseases and the effectiveness of such a method in view of its increasing use in clinical practice. A search was carried out in the MEDLINE, LILACS, Scielo and PEDro databases, and 14 studies were selected, with 505 study participants included in this review. Considering the variables that were analyzed by more than one study, 72 outcome measures were performed and 83.33% (60) of them obtained statistically significant improvement after intervention with PM. Since it contributes to the recovery of the individual's autonomy, since it acts to improve muscle strength, improve gait parameters, mobility, reach and balance, MP is an alternative for the rehabilitation of individuals with neurological injuries.
