Toponímia urbana: nomes de ruas da cidade mineira de Ponte Nova

Abstract

In this article, we propose a part of PhD thesis, in progress at PostLin/FALE/UFMG, titled “Tradition and memory in the streets names in Ponte Nova – Minas Gerais: an anthroponymy studies”. Summing 558 urban addresses, Ponte Nova town, located in the Forest Zone of Minas Gerais, has 57.390 citizens. Initially, we constructed a database with all streets names of this town; afterwards, we made toponymics records, we classified the toponyms according to the model proposed by Dick (1990), we quantified e analyzed data. Once it is concerning toponymy, an interdisciplinary discipline, we also based on extraliguistic, social, historical and geographic data.
