Resumen
This work aimed to study the relationship between religion / irreligion and the Freudian concept of father complex. From the conception of Freud about theism as originating and supported this, we attempted to apply the same concept in atheism, subject almost absent in
considerable psychoanalytic literature on religion. For that became first a bibliographical research on Freud's atheism. In this, we tried to raise the origin of his disbelief in his relationship with his parents, especially his father, and in the spirit of his time, which housed
scientists and philosophers of his supporters antirreligious ideals. Later there was a specific analysis of two texts on which their belief in God gave the father complex, the need of human beings to take comfort with an omniscient and righteous Father. Here the attempt was to highlight his views on the subject. From this became a concise review of the concept of father in their texts, as the key position in relation to this theme. Anyway analyzed as the father complex can interrelate with atheism and rose assumptions about such a connection. With the work we conclude that the Freud‟s antirreligous position was due to emotional and environmental factors, child of the Enlightenment it was. It was also concluded that the father complex concept used by the father of psychoanalysis to explain theism and the need for paternal protection, may also explain the atheistic attitude of individuals.
