Resumen
This study aimed to compare the perceptions of students and professorsabout gender discrimination in the academic accounting environment. An analysis sample consisted of 314 respondents who completed an electronic questionnaire, among students and professors of postgraduate programs in the Accounting in Brazil. 206 responses were also received for an open field of the questionnaire, in which about 70% of the respondents pointed out that they did not present cases of gender discrimination during an academic trajectory. Some relationships, however, return to aspects such as: the absence of women in management positions within universities; aggressiveness in dealing with academic women; sexist comments as “jokes” and discrimination regarding sexual orientation. It was possible to perceive the naturalization of gender inequality and the way it affects women and men who cause problems in the problem, as many speeches have demonstrated the naturalization of these inequalities and their effects. We hope to contribute to the area by providing material for thinking about policies within universities, stimulating dialogues on the subject, which is still poorly addressed in accounting literature, in addition to stimulating new research so that its findings act as tools for social change.
