This article examines the controversy around Vladimir Nabokov’s Lolita, in two different moments: its first Spanish edition in 1959 by Sur, and its re-readings in the wake of the women’s movement after 2015. Focusing on Argentina but taking into account the transnational dialogue brought out, I reflect on the problems Lolita poses to the established notions of literary autonomy. The article looks at both the question asked by feminists –How does culture legitimize the very sexual order that society is trying to debunk?– and the question thrown at feminists –whether feminisms are willing to promote taboos and moralizations– in order to shed light on the tension between autonomy and relevance. The position of this article is that current reception conditions inhibit strictly literary readings of Lolita and of its circulation.  Este artículo examina las polémicas desencadenadas por Lolita, de Vladimir Nabokov, en dos momentos: la primera edición en castellano, hecha por Sur en 1959, y su relectura después del movimiento de mujeres iniciado en 2015. Con foco en Argentina pero considerando el diálogo transnacional que suscitó, investigo los cuestionamientos que produjo a nociones establecidas de autonomía literaria, y la existencia social de la literatura. El artículo relaciona la pregunta que hacen las relecturas feministas –cómo la cultura legitima el orden sexual que se está tratando de impugnar– y la que se hace al feminismo –si está dispuesto a promover tabúes y moralizaciones– atendiendo la tensión entre autonomía y relevancia que esto produce. La posición de este artículo es que las condiciones actuales de recepción inhiben una lectura de Lolita y de su circulación estrictamente literaria.
