The article analyzes one of the so-called Fragmenta Tusculana (Crypt. gr. 54), commonly interpreted as the most ancient source (of VI-VII century) of Malalas’ Chronography. In particular, the focus is on the third fragment, dedicated to the episode of the empress Eudocia, Paulinus and the apple. The research intends to highlight the narrative peculiarities of this testimony, which presents some significant divergences with respect to the main Malalas’ witness (Baroccianus gr. 182) and reveals an apparently autonomous way to use, rework and combine various chronicle materials.L’articolo prende in esame uno dei cosiddetti Fragmenta Tusculana (Crypt. gr. 54), comunemente interpretati come la più antica testimonianza (di VI-VII secolo) della Chronographia di Malalas. In particolare, il focus è posto sul terzo frammento, dedicato all’episodio dell’imperatrice Eudocia, Paolino e la mela. Lo studio intende evidenziare le peculiarità narrative di questo testimone, che presenta alcuni significativi punti di divergenza nel confronto con la versione testuale nota dal codice principale, il Baroccianus gr. 182, e sembra rivelare una certa autonomia nell’uso, nella rielaborazione e nella combinazione di materiale cronachistico vario.
