Abstract

In accordance with the philosophy of the Universidad Santo Tomás, it is important to train new professionals so that they respond in an appropriate manner to the different problems that are identified in the context, one of them being the barriers encountered by people with visual disabilities. when it comes to participating effectively in the different areas of life. As health professionals, in this case of optometry, it is essential that teachers get their students to reflect on the following questions: How to develop communication material that allows health professionals to learn more on the approach of the population with low vision? And how to assume their role as professionals when making a diagnosis and making decisions regarding the process of each person? The general objective is to give the student a reference document where the possibilities offered by the typhlological areas are found, so that as a professional they are able to read the social and family context of a person with visual disabilities and thus empower the person. facing your life project, offering you alternative solutions to the different problems.
