Resumen
Suicide represents a public health risk situation because on average around 7 suicides per day and 95 suicide attempts per day were reported during the year 2022, evidencing a great problem, since one of the most common causes of committed suicide are previous attempts; additionally, there are risk factors that have been involved in the development of suicidal behaviors, among these is the use of psychoactive substances, since it is present in 50% of registered suicide attempts; on the other hand, the existence of favorable family environments for the integral development of its members can act as a protector against the appearance of suicidal behaviors. (Infoabe, WHO 2014, Pan American Health Organization n.d., United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime)
The investigative exercise was carried out through the quantitative research methodology of the descriptive correlational type in a sample made up of 82 active students of the electronic engineering program of the Santo Tomás University. For the quantification and analysis of the variables was use the Family Apgar battery, the ASSIST research instrument and the PANSI positive and negative suicidal ideation inventory.
After the analysis of the data collected, it was found that the satisfaction of needs by the family system can be a protector against the appearance of suicidal behaviors; on the other hand, the consumption of psychoactive substances, mainly alcohol, can increase suicidal ideas.
