Resumen
METROKIA S.A. is a company in the automotive sector recognized for being the main distributor of KIA brand products in Colombia; This is dedicated to the purchase, import, marketing and distribution of new vehicles and spare parts of this brand, offering after-sales workshop service. In Bogotá there are six workshops dedicated to the sale and mechanical maintenance of automobiles;; however, the workshop located on 224th Street is the largest of these, it is the only location with a collision service, they receive around 250 vehicles per month for after-sales service, added to the approximately 200 imported vehicles that enter the headquarters monthly; is where a monthly average of 1400 kg of hazardous waste is generated, which according to Article 2.2.6.1.6.2 Decree 1076 of 2015 is in the classification category as a Great Generator exceeding 1000 kg RESPEL per month; That is why it is necessary to establish procedures for the management and control of these wastes, thus avoiding damage to health and the environment.
Currently, the METROKIA Cl 224 headquarters has a comprehensive hazardous waste management plan that has been out of date since 2012; however, this is not known to the officials and many of the activities exposed there are not carried out. The purpose of this work is to update the Comprehensive Waste Management Plan; this was divided into four components; The first is prevention and minimization, where the generated waste will be identified, classified and quantified; component two of internal mobilization refers mainly to the handling of waste within the facilities; component three corresponds to external management in which control of the transport and final disposal of waste is carried out; Finally, in component four, monitoring and evaluation strategies for the plan are developed.
The compilation of the information for said update was carried out through interviews with the employees and a series of formats that allowed the identification of inputs and outputs of the services provided by the company, it was evaluated from the points of generation, mobilization routes, storage conditions, management of the companies in charge of disposal and current follow-up actions. It was found that in the old plan there were only two generalized processes: the administrative and the vehicle maintenance diagram, in them there is no discrimination between types of waste, that is why 23% were not identified and classified, employees have no knowledge of the risks involved in handling hazardous waste; additionally, poor management of RESPEL within the workshop in terms of risk communication, segregation, inadequate storage conditions, among others.
