Objetivo: Determinar la relación entre los factores de riesgo y Degeneración macular asociado a la edad (DMAE) en pacientes atendidos en el Hospital Militar Central en Lima, en el 2019. Materiales y métodos: Este estudio fue de tipo3observacional, analítico, retrospectivo y de corte transversal, de nivel correlacional. La población abarcó todos los pacientes3atendidos en el servicio de3oftalmología del Hospital3Militar Central, de la cual se tomó una muestra de 137 pacientes. Resultados: El 16% de pacientes tuvieron DMAE húmeda, y 84% DMAE seca. De los pacientes con DMAE seca el 12.2% fumaba frente a un 45% de fumadores entre los pacientes con DMAE húmeda (p<0.001). La raza no estuvo asociada con el tipo de DMAE. El antecedente familiar se correlaciona más con la DMAE húmeda que con la seca (p=0.001). En pacientes con DMAE seca el porcentaje de pacientes varones fue de 51.3% frente a un 77.3% de varones en el grupo con DMAE húmeda, siendo esta diferencia significativa (p=0.025). Conclusiones: Se concluye que el tabaquismo, el antecedente familiar y el sexo, tuvieron una correlación significativa con el tipo de DMAE.
