The objective of the study was to determine the relationship between knowledge and practice about exclusive breastfeeding in mothers who attend the growth and development service of the Santiago Apóstol Hospital in Utcubamba. The design was non-experimental, correlational and cross-sectional, the questionnaire validated by Obregón was used, with a Kurder-Richardson level of reliability of 0.64 for the knowledge variable and 0.62 for the practice variable, and a binomial test of agreement between judges of 0.008. As a result, it was obtained that 28.3% mothers were between 21 and 25 years of age and only 1% were older than 40 years, 28.3% of mothers had completed secondary education and 23.3% had completed education higher; 80% of the mothers were housewives. It was found that 90% of the respondents had a medium level of knowledge, 6.7% high and 3.3% low, likewise that 61.7% of the respondents had adequate practices and 38.3% inadequate. It is concluded that there is a relationship between the level of knowledge and the practice of breastfeeding.
