En los últimos años en Colombia se han presentado varias fusiones que reflejan una consolidación importante por parte de los bancos comerciales bajo un esquema de banca universal y una constante búsqueda de eficiencia. Las fusiones se han convertido en el vehiculo principal para que numerosas compañías aumenten sus beneficios con mayor rapidez ; afirmando que dentro de dicho proceso las fuentes mas comunes de fracaso están las cuestiones relativas a las personas y los aspectos relacionados con la cultura de la empresa.
