Resumen
La crianza de alpacas en la zona altoandina constituye una actividad de importancia, siendo una de las especies que genera recursos económicos para los criadores, por la producción de fibra que presenta características textiles muy especiales. El intervalo generacional es la edad promedio de los padres cuando nace los hijos, que serán los padres de la siguiente generación, constituyen un factor determinante y práctico del Progreso Genético, que permite el manejo adecuado de los animales en todo programa de mejora genética en base a la selección de animales (Delgado, 2003); todo criador trata de maximizar el progreso genético anual, que se puede lograr aumentando la intensidad y la precisión de selección, manteniendo la variancia genética elevada o disminuyendo el intervalo generacional (Gama, 2002). El objetivo de este estudio persigue evaluar los intervalos generacionales de progenitores y progenie en alpacas Huacaya.
