Resumen
Parenting styles constitute a constellation of parental attitudes, which are experienced,
communicated and practiced with the children, creating an emotional climate in which parental
strategies to educate and protect their children are manifested with the intention that they
present balanced psychosocial behaviors. However, situations may arise in which caregivers
induce guilt in their children, which in the long term may turn into false feelings of guilt that
may trigger disorders related to depression and anxiety. The aim of this study was to determine
the relationship between parenting styles and feelings of guilt in high school students of the
Hermano Miguel De La Salle Educational Unit in the period 2022. The research design was
non-experimental transversal and correlational in scope, it was developed under a quantitative
modality. The population consisted of 525 students and the sample was selected with a margin
of error of 5.2% and a confidence level of 95%, which gave a sample of 213 students. Data
were collected through two instruments: Steinberg's Parenting Styles Questionnaire and Guilt
Scale SC-35. The results indicate that the authoritarian style was the most frequent in the
sample and that adolescents tend to blame themselves more than they should, in addition, it
was obtained with the correlation that the authoritarian style has the highest mean of guilt
feelings with 123.53 which corresponds to the level of "excessive guilt feeling".
