Background: Chronic kidney disease causes progressive renal deterioration that increases the morbidity and mortality of the pediatric patient.
Objective: To determine the clinical and epidemiological profile of patients with chronic kidney disease, under 16 years of age, treated in pediatric nephrology at Hospital Vicente Corral Moscoso, Cuenca - Ecuador. May 2016 to December 2020.
Methodology: An observational, descriptive study was carried out. The study population was patients with chronic kidney disease, treated in the pediatric nephrology outpatient clinic under 16 years of age at Hospital Vicente Corral Moscoso, who met the inclusion criteria. The information was collected using a form prepared by the author and the data from the medical records were taken through the MEDISYS system. The descriptive analysis was carried out in the SPSS version 25 program, the variables analyzed were presented in the form of frequencies and percentages.
Results: Predominance was found in the female sex (56%), urban zone (61.5%), adolescent age group (47.3%), the congenital history that prevailed was hydronephrosis (13.2%) and the acquired lupus nephritis (6.6%). Patients in KDIGO stage 2 (27.5%), and 5 (22%), in KDIGO stage 5, the main clinical manifestations were arterial hypertension (14.3%), anemia (20.9%), chronic malnutrition. severe (11%). The treatment received predominantly in advanced stages.
Conclusions: The complexity in the clinical presentation and treatment of chronic renal failure increases with the progress of the stage, according to the KDIGO classification.
