Resumen
The purpose of this research was to analyze the characteristic curves of an internal combustion engine using two methods to compare and demonstrate their similarity later. We worked with a Chevrolet model 2008 engine, whose cylinder capacity is 1600 cubic centimeters. The first method we worked with was the effective method based on applying a braking force to the engine. For this, the Borghi & Saveri brand dynamometer was used. The second method which we worked with was the indicated work method. Unlike the practical method, this method works with a pressure sensor and an angular encoder. This method is used by the AVL equipment acquired by the Escuela Superior Politecnica de Chimborazo. It should be noted that as they are different methods of obtaining data, identical values will not be obtained between them. For this reason, a statistical analysis was carried out to know the coefficient of determination, which allows knowing the value of variation between them. At the end of the investigation, once the characteristic curves of the motor were obtained, it was possible to analyze and compare the results obtained by both methods. In this way, it was possible to verify that there is a similarity in the behavior of the results, concluding that both methods allow obtaining the characteristic curves of the motor and, in this way, knowing its operating status. For future analyzes, it recommends taking into account the proper use of tools for handling the equipment and adequately understanding how to handle the software of both the dynamometer and the AVL equipment. In this way, it will avoid equipment and data acquisition inconveniences.
