Resumen
The objective of the research was to evaluate the tanning of sheep skins with aluminum sulphate
at different levels in combination with mimosa, (Mimosa púdica), for leather goods. The experimental work was carried out in the Tanning Skins Laboratory in Ciencias Pecuarias of Escuela Superior Politécnica de Chimborazo. On the other hand, the physical analysis of the leather was carried out in the Quality Laboratory of FCP, the number of experimental units was 16 sheep skins. For the statistical phase, a completely simple randomized design was used with three treatments that were the levels of aluminum sulfate (7%, 8% and 9%) plus a fixed percentage of mimosa, four repetitions, the same that were compared with a control treatment, in which chromium was used, with four repetitions, the statistical software was infostat version 2020, the statistical analyzes were: Analysis of Variance (ADEVA). Tukey's test for the separation of means, regression analysis and correlation for variables that present significance. The results indicate the best tension (3827.00 N/cm2) and lastometry (10.08 mm) when tanning with 9% aluminum sulfate; while the best elongation (56.88%), the leathers tanned with 8% aluminum sulfate provide. The best grades of fullness (4.50 points) and roundness (4.75 points) are obtained when tanning with 9% aluminum sulfate, while the softness (4.75 points), reaches a grade of excellent when using 7% tanning (T1). The economic evaluation determines the highest gain with 9% of aluminum sulfate with a cost benefit ratio of 1.36. So it is recommended to use 9% of aluminum sulfate since the physical resistance and sensory ratings are higher, producing a very resistant leather, and with an incomparable beauty.
