Resumen
The objective of this research was to describe the relationship of cardiometabolic risk factors with an abdominal circumference in public servers of the Escuela Politécnica Nacional, Quito, 2017. A descriptive, cross-sectional study was conducted with a sample of 89 public servers, 58 women and 31 men, aged 25 to 60 years, who underwent institutional occupational examinations and nutritional consultation. Among the variables that were identified were body mass index (BMI), total body fat percentage, visceral fat level measured with bioimpedance, abdominal circumference, and biochemical analyses of glycemia, lipid profile, and uric acid, allowing for the identification of cardiometabolic risk factors based on abdominal circumference. The data obtained were processed with the JMP 11 program, which showed that 52% were overweight and 30% obese, and only 18% were in a normal nutritional state, which was corroborated by the high percentages of body fat and visceral fat levels above 10, which were found in the study group, also in the analysis between variables it was determined that abdominal circumference correlated directly with cardiometabolic risk factors: glycemia and uric acid, while the lipid profile did not present a significant relationship, therefore, the lipid profile is independent of the abdominal circumference value. It can be concluded that the abdominal circumference correlated positively with the cardiometabolic risk factors: glycemia, and uric acid, in addition to the level of visceral fat (p<0.05), accepting the hypothesis proposed.
