Resumen
The aim of this graduation work was to design a treatment system for the waste collected by the Tracked Hydrovacuum vehicle of the Municipal Sewage and Drinking Water Company from Guaranda. For its design, sludge characterizations and treatability tests, such as the jar test were performed to obtain the right dose of chemical products. The determination of the parameters analyzed was based on HACH procedures, approved by the Standard Methods for the Examination of Water and Wastewater carried out in the water quality control laboratory belonging to E. P. EMAPA-G, and LABCESTTA S.A. The sludge treatment system is designed to treat a flow of 405,216 m3/d and consisted on a 34 m3 gravity thickening system; a sludge stabilization process with two upflow anaerobic filter units (UAF) and a building area of 372 m3 with a filter media surface area of 39 m2; followed by the chemical conditioning with the use of liquid aluminum polychloride in a dose of 3.9 mg/l, using a mechanical radial turbine mixer tank which rotates at 306 rpm, to pass to the belt-type filter dehydration unit, this allows obtaining a sludge cake ready for its final disposal, which consisted on the application of the sludge to the land in a long-term storage in order to take advantage of its characteristics for a vermicomposting process, using it as fertilizer or organic amendment in surrounding areas of the plant. Therefore, it is recommended to carry out permanent characterizations of relevant parameters found in the sludge and provide information to the society about the sludge treatment process and its impact on the environment, as well as its uses.
