Emissions in the city Quito-Ecuador have increased drastically in the last decade due to the increased use of automobiles. This represents higher emissions of harmful gases such as carbon monoxide and hydrocarbons. Without gasoline subsidies, many people have switched to lower octane fuels, not realizing that these fuels have higher heat loss. These fuels are cheaper; however, its use can lead to increased fuel consumption due to reduced engine performance. This project will analyze the operating parameters of an MPI engine to improve fuel consumption performance through the RDE real emission cycle in the city of Quito-Ecuador, varying the filter characteristics (air, fuel) and type of gasoline.
To have greater fuel savings and a decrease in polluting emissions within the city of Quito-Ecuador, different parameters that influence fuel consumption are taken into account, which are not usually taken into account, due to economic factors. Usually, people use lower octane fuels because they tend to be cheaper, minimizing the energy efficiency of a higher-octane fuel.
There are studies carried out in laboratories, but they differ from the values obtained in real road conditions, for this reason it is intended to make an analysis of the variables that are not normally considered when maintenance is carried out on the vehicle, such as the change of air filters. air and gasoline, in general, this is ignored by people who are unaware of the subject. It is also intended to make an analysis of the influence that a higher-octane fuel has on consumption, when going through several cycles of real RDE emissions.
Through RDE tests, this project aims to explore variables such as filter characteristics and the type of gasoline used by an MPI engine while driving on a route in Quito-Ecuador. The data collected through an OBD II device is used in this study, to calculate fuel consumption and make comparisons between the parameters that influence it. By optimizing fuel efficiency through this test, the project hopes to estimate actual fuel consumption on the highway.
