A study is presented on the library culture of socialism in Argentina (1910-1920). Itanalyses: (a) the messages transmitted from La Vanguardia about libraries in general;(b) the articles that the same newspaper published about the Biblioteca Obrera inparticular. It is shown that the intensity and constancy of the theme created a criticallibrary rhetoric, within which the Biblioteca Obrera exemplified good practices andthe horizon to be followed. It is concluded that this preaching transmitted an idea ofa library that brought together the militants of reading under the same perspectiveand encouraged them to form new and better experiences.Se presenta un estudio sobre la cultura bibliotecaria del socialismo en la Argentinadurante la década de 1910. Dos puntos de análisis estructuran el ensayo: (a) losmensajes transmitidos desde La Vanguardia sobre las bibliotecas en general; (b) losartículos que el mismo periódico publicó sobre la Biblioteca Obrera en particular. Seconstata que la intensidad y la constancia del tema crearon una retórica bibliotecariade tono contestatario, dentro de la cual la Biblioteca Obrera sirvió como ejemplificaciónde las buenas prácticas y del horizonte por alcanzar. Se concluye que esa prédicatransmitió una idea de biblioteca que aglutinó a los militantes de la lectura bajo unamisma perspectiva y los alentó a formar nuevas y mejores experiencias.
