Resumen
This undergraduate paper aims to analyse the feature film Return to Oz (1985), dissecting its elements to elucidate the visual and narratological strategies used to build the marvellous land of Oz stemming from Dorothy Gales’ mind. Merging concepts from Psychiatry and Cinema, the work tries to prove the hypothesis that the magical world is an extension of reality, created by a psychological disorder suffered by the main character. The method is film analysis based on the studies of Francis Vanoye, Anne Goliot-Leté, Jacques Aumont and Michel Marie, in addition to the theoretical content based on research and testimonies from psychiatric professionals. There are numerous indications that point to Dorothy's madness, as well as different meanings that can be added onto characters and situations during the film.
