A common misconception is that tooth loss is inevitable; with proper care, teeth can last a lifetime. With age there are biological, morphological and structural changes, in the teeth the vasculonervous bundle tends to narrow, which makes the teeth less susceptible to decay and other problems, however, a carelessness on the part of the geriatric patient can cause severe problems involving endodontic treatment. The treatment plan will be carried out according to the characteristics of the patient, one of the most recommended plans at present is the use of mechanized systems at the time of root shaping, which reduces working time and the risk of fracture. The objective was to identify the efficacy of mechanized endodontic systems in geriatric patients. The research was of a bibliographic, qualitative and documentary type based on scientific articles from academic search engines, referring to the topic to be developed. As a result, we have found that endodontic treatment in geriatric patients is considered successful when special attention is given to a good diagnosis, high quality radiographs and adequate techniques presented for various difficulties such as root canal calcifications. In conclusion, the use of current mechanized systems in root canal preparation is a valid option for geriatric patients due to the shorter preparation time, thus generating less stress for the patient.
