Prótesis removible en paciente con pérdida de dimensión vertical

Abstract

La dimensión vertical puede ser afectada por diversas causas, siendo la más importante la falta de piezas dentales, trayendo repercusiones en el sistema estomatognático, alterando el sistema neuromuscular, puede causar falta de espacio protésico, es posible aumentar la dimensión vertical mediante tratamientos protésicos siempre y cuando se cumpla con el protocolo correspondiente, el objetivo del presente caso fue restablecer la dimensión vertical mediante un tratamiento con prótesis removible; se presenta el caso clínico de un paciente de sexo masculino de 51 años de edad, con pérdida de función y estética dental. Al examen presenta edentulismo parcial superior e inferior, desgastes incisales marcados en el sector anterior, macroglosia, perdida del contorno facial y líneas de expresión acentuadas. Se recuperó la dimensión vertical confeccionando prótesis parciales metálicas removibles superior e inferior, y restauraciones en el sector anterior, los resultados obtenidos fueron favorables, logrando la recuperación de las funciones del sistema estomatognático y recuperando la estética, aumentando la confianza y autoestima del paciente.

The vertical dimension can be altered by several causes, particularly through the lack of dental pieces. Vertical dimension loss causes repercussions on the stomatognathic system that lead to the alteration of the neuromuscular system and prosthetic space reduction. Vertical dimension may increase with prosthetic treatments if the corresponding protocol is thoroughly followed. The aim od this clinical case is to restore the vertical dimension through a removable prosthesis treatment on a 51-year-old male patient. The clinical exam shows an upper and lower partial edentulism with marked incisal wear in the anterior sector, macroglossia, facial contouring loss and accentuated expression lines. The vertical dimension is restored by making removable upper and lower metal partial dentures, and restorations in the anterior sector. The obtained results are favorable since the patiente recovered vital stomatognathic system functions as well as the aesthetics which enhances confidence.
