Abstract

Hercules and the King of Portugal is a provocative reflection on represntations of masculinity in the fashioning of Spanish national identity conducted through two male icons in early modern history, Hercules and King Sebastian of Portugal. Both serve as symbols of power and expressions of nationhood.
