dc.descriptionThe publication of Report on higher education in Chile: 1980-2003 and its contrast with what is happening in some province universities permits to obtain a panoramic view of higher education in Chile. In this article, we analized it, focused on the students, their socio-cultural background, the new participants of the system, the level of achievement, the inflation of grades and the necessity of making a correction of the distortions of the system. The university model developed by the University Austral, combines its private feature with a great ideological and financial autonomy. This allows us to contrast a general view with the analysis of a particular case.en-US
dc.descriptionLa publicación del Informe sobre la educación superior en Chile: 1980-2003 y su contraste con lo que sucede en algunas universidades de provincia permite tener una visión panorámica de la educación superior en Chile. En este ensayo se realiza una reflexión sobre ella, centrada en los alumnos, en su situación sociocultural, en los nuevos actores del sistema, en los rangos de rendimiento, en la inflación de notas y en la necesidad de corregir distorsiones del sistema. El modelo de universidad creado por la Universidad Austral de Chile, que conjuga su carácter privado con una gran autonomía ideológica y económica, permite contrastar la visión general con el análisis de un caso.es-ES
