Resumen
In the State of Sao Paulo, when the coffee economy starts to decline and the industrialization process starts, the railroad activities loose force and new forms of organization emerge in the urban space. In the city of Rio Claro, the railroad area and some of the real state surrounding it became obsolete in this process, cutting the downtown and leaving some points, an aspect of degradation and abandonment. These areas are denominated by many authors as brownfield sites. The objective of this paper was to implement tests um segmentation and classification techniques in Geographic Information Systems to identify brownfield in the neighborhood of the road axis of the city of Rio Claro in the State of Sao Paulo (Brazil). The identification of brownfield areas can subsidize revitalization projects. The elaboration of new methods with the use of tools and techniques allied with field work and to studies of revitalization cases is a way to contribute to the urban and territorial planning in the city of Rio Claro.
