http://dx.doi.org/10.5007/1984-8420.2015v16n2p62The officialization of the Portuguese language in Equatorial Guinea, a Central African country, and its subsequent binding to the Community of Portuguese Language Countries is addressed in this paper. The discussion is heading from an interdisciplinary perspective between History and Linguistics, which seeks to emphasize the political di­mension of linguistic description of the Fá d´ambô, language spoken in Annobón prov­ince, one of Equatorial Guinea’s territory, since it has been used as evidence of connec­tion with Portuguese culture and language. By way of a critical approach, the article tries to reflect on the extent to which the historic rescue of language would be an attempt to establish a continuity with a missing link, interpreting the language policy of descriptive linguistics through the concept of invention of tradition. (HOBSBAWM, 2015).A oficialização da língua portuguesa em Guiné Equatorial, país da África Central, e sua posterior vinculação à Comunidade dos Países de Língua Portuguesa é propósito de problematização neste artigo. A discussão se encaminha de uma perspectiva interdisciplinar entre história e linguística, em que se busca colocar em pauta a dimensão política da descrição linguística do fá d´ambô, língua falada em Ano Bom, um dos territórios pertencentes a Guiné Equatorial, o que forneceu prova de conexão com a cultura e língua portuguesa. Recorrendo a uma abordagem crítica, procurou-se refletir em que medida o resgate histórico da língua seria uma tentativa de estabelecer uma continuidade com um elo perdido, interpretando a política linguística de descrição e registro da língua por intermédio da tradição inventada de Hobsbawm (2015).
