Presents a thematic referential overview of the courses of Technical Education of High School Level (EPTNM) offered by the Federal Institutes of Education, Science and Technology (IF) of the brazilian Midwest Region. Describes the emergence, development and establishment of the Brazilian Federal Network of Professional, Scientific and Technological Education (RFEPCT), and of the IF, as well as their organizational aspects and educational concepts, in the context of the historical trajectory of Brazilian professional education. The nature of the research is descriptive with a theoretical-conceptual and quali-quantitative approach. Explains about the official instruments of registration and systematization of EPTNM, primarily the National Information System for Professional and Technological Education (SISTEC) and the National Catalog of Technical Courses (CNCT), the thematic scope of the technical courses offered by the Federal Institutes of the Network, as well as the way it is organized and ordered by Technological Axes contained in the CNCT. It discusses the Federal Institutes, with a deeper understanding of the Institutes of the Midwest Region, and characterizes them considering the historical-geographical and social context of the federative units in which they are located. It identifies and analyzes, by campus, Institute, and federative unit, the distribution of the technological axes covered in the technical courses offered by these Federal Institutes, and also the distribution of the various courses, in different levels and teaching modalities, covered by the offer within the scope of Professional and Technological Education (EPT). The organization and tabulation of data provided a systematic representation in the context of areas of knowledge by technological axes. The results demonstrate the current RFEPCT trends, placing it in terms of the thematic scope of the professional education offered by the IF in the Midwest Region.Apresenta um panorama referencial temático dos cursos da Educação Profissional Técnica de Nível Médio (EPTNM) ofertados pelos de Educação, Ciência e Tecnologia (IF) da Região Centro-Oeste. Descreve o surgimento, desenvolvimento e estabelecimento da Rede Federal de Educação Profissional, Científica e Tecnológica (RFEPCT) brasileira, e dos IF, bem como seus aspectos organizacionais e concepções educativas, no contexto da trajetória histórica da educação profissional brasileira. A natureza da pesquisa é descritiva com abordagem teórico-conceitual e qualiquantitativa. Explana acerca dos instrumentos oficiais de registro e de sistematização da EPTNM, primordialmente o Sistema Nacional de Informações da Educação Profissional e Tecnológica (SISTEC) e o Catálogo Nacional de Cursos Técnicos (CNCT), da abrangência temática dos cursos técnicos de nível médio ofertados pelos Institutos Federais da Rede, bem como da forma como esta é organizada e ordenada por Eixos Tecnológicos constantes no CNCT. Discorre acerca dos Institutos Federais, com aprofundamento nos Institutos da Região Centro-Oeste, e os caracteriza considerando o contexto histórico-geográfico e social das unidades federativas em que se localizam. Identifica e analisa, por campus, Instituto, e unidade federativa, a distribuição dos eixos tecnológicos abrangidos nos cursos técnicos de nível médio ofertados por esses Institutos Federais, e também a distribuição dos diversos cursos, em diferentes níveis e modalidades de ensino, abarcados pela oferta no âmbito da Educação Profissional e Tecnológica (EPT). A organização e tabulação dos dados propiciaram uma representação sistematizada no contexto das áreas do conhecimento por eixos tecnológicos. Os resultados demonstram as atuais tendências da RFEPCT situando-a no que tange à abrangência temática do ensino profissionalizante ofertado pelos IF da Região Centro-Oeste.
