Resumen
Various applications of aluminum have required their elements to work in severe conditions of friction, wear and corrosion, such as in the use of frames, profiles, household articles, automobile industry, aeronautical industry, architectural ornamental elements, cell phones and computers. This need has led to several studies in order to increase the useful life and quality of the materials to be used, such as in coatings. To obtain such results, it is necessary that studies be developed in the area so that the best possible results are always tried. To obtain such results, it is necessary that studies be developed in the area so that the best possible results are always tried. Some of the processes that have been used are chrome plating and nickel plating, where a layer of chromium and nickel, respectively, is deposited on the material in order to increase its strength. The problem is that chromium and nickel are heavy metals, that is, they are extremely polluting, causing various environmental impacts. These issues led to the present work, where a study on anodization, that is, a coating process where is not used the deposition of heavy metals on aluminum, but of aluminum oxide carried out in causing by the material react in a electrolytic bath, where the applications are quite close to the other coating processes mentioned. As the work is intended to be widely used, one of the alloys that go through the process of chrome plating, a molten aluminum alloy (Al-Si) 403.2 will be used. The samples were compared in two immersion times, being 15 and 30 minutes, where the thickness of the layer in the two times was analyzed by two methods of measurement, the first being the parasite current method, which is already used commercially for the quality control and the second by SEM after a fragile fracture in an attempt to analyze whether the second method can also be used according to its application, since the aluminum oxide is very similar to aluminum and may not be possible to differentiate it from aluminum.
