Resumen
Fresh water is a finite natural resource, the quality has worsened due to increased population and the lack of public policies for its preservation. It is estimated that currently the world 1.7 million people suffer from water scarcity and this difficulty can also be associated with qualitative factors, caused by pollution. The city quality water is a major, else the largest, quality reference of life in the region. The city of Medianeira-PR have the Alegria's river very polluted, and this river's water is treated and used for public supply. Much of the citizens believe that the tap water doesn't have good quality using the artesian wells searching a solution for own consumption. The number of wells in the city and the high demand for this alternative may bring future problems for the environment, for the growth of the city and to the public that uses this source without knowing the truth about the potability. Interviews were conducted with 50 residents while they were fetching water in one of the 3 selected wells, located near to the downtown. Also an interview with an official of the Health Surveillance for collecting information on all wells was performed. Was performed the physicochemical and microbiological water analysis from these three wells, and one of these was at odds with the legislation presenting microbiological contamination.
