Resumen
The aim this study was to analyze the possible factors associated to physical activity counseling received for adults treated at Public Health Clinics. In 2019, a crosssectional study was conducted, with a representative sample of 779 users from 15 Clinics in São José dos Pinhais (Paraná) city. Counseling was assessed with a dichotomous answer to the question: “During the past year, have you received counseling to practice physical activities?”. We analyzed sociodemographic variables (gender, age group, marital status, skin color, education, socioeconomic level), health (nutritional status, smoking, diagnosis of morbidities and medication consumption), and leisure time physical activity and stages of change behavior for physical activity. Data were analyzed using Poisson regression and the level of significance was maintained at 5%. The prevalence of counseling was 43% (95% CI: 39.5-46.4%). The sociodemographic variables age group (“≥ 60 years”: PR = 1.33; 95% CI: 1.04-1.70) and education (“complete high school”: PR = 1.21; 95% CI: 1.01 -1.45) showed a positive association to counseling. However, “divorced/widowed” marital status showed an inverse association (PR = 0.72; 95% CI: 0.51-0.99). Regarding health conditions, people with a body mass index equal to or greater than 30.0 kg / m2 (PR = 1.45; 95% CI: 1.16-1.80) and who use continuous medications (1-3 : PR = 1.79; 95% CI: 1.43-2.22 | ≥ 4: PR = 1.68; 95% CI: 1.22-2.29) were more likely to receive counseling for physical activity. Counseling was associated with walking for leisure, at a volume of 150 minutes or more in a normal week (PR = 1.49; 95% CI: 1.03-2.16) and also with the stages of behavior change “contemplation” (PR = 2.16; 95% CI: 1.26- 3.69), “preparation” (PR = 3.47; 95% CI: 2.02-5.94), “action” (PR = 2.54; 95% CI: 1.07-6.02) and “maintenance” (PR = 2.19; 95% CI: 1.34-3.57. The groups with the greatest exposure to counseling were elderly, those with higher education, obese and who consume medication. Counseling was also associated with walking at leisure (≥ 150 min/week) and advanced to stages of change behavior for physical activity.
