Resumen
The textile industry generates tons of waste in all sectors. Part of the solid waste is recycled or reused, but a big part is deposited in landfills and the effluents undergo physical, chemical, biological or advanced treatments. At the Technological Federal University of Paraná, campus Apucarana, the Laboratory for Research and Development and Production of Clothing generates a large amount of patchwork with cotton composition that is deposited in landfills. In the Laundry Laboratory a considerable volume of effluent containing cellulase enzyme is generated from the practical classes of the Industrial Laundry Technology. These enzymes are discarded along with other liquid effluents from all laboratories, containing chemical reagents and dyes that receive chemical treatment. Thus, the aim of this study was to promote the biodegradation of solid cotton waste generated from the University labs with cellulase enzymes remaining from practical classes, expecting to reduce the environmental impact. In conclusion, the use of the effluent containing the enzyme cellulase promoted alteration in the solid residue tested, mainly when the temperature was raised to 50 ºC. This work serves as a basis for the optimization of the biodegradation process, as well as to evaluate in detail the resulting products.
