Resumen
The book Local Area Networks brings the concepts and technologies related to local area networks with the aim of supporting teachers, students and professionals of Computer Networks. The work covers the fundamental concepts and key technologies of local area networks over seven chapters. The first chapter presents a general summary about local area networks, with the introduction of many concepts and terminologies. The second chapter discusses the history and evolution of local area networks to facilitate understanding of how technologies developed to the present stage. The third chapter presents the topologies for different types of computer networks, presenting and discussing the main physical and logical topologies. In the fourth chapter, the subject is local area network architecture, whose related concepts are important for understanding the following chapters. The fifth and sixth chapters cover specific standards for local area networks, in particular the Ethernet technology, which is the local area network technology more adopted worldwide. Finally, the seventh chapter addresses the wireless local area networks. As learning activity of main topics, exercises are included at the end of each chapter.
