This research sought to investigate the reality of the topic of well-being and responsible custody, and the knowledge of the teachers of the Municipal Department of Education of the municipality of DoisVizinhos, Paraná, addressing questions related to the knowledge needed to work the issue in the classroom. The Law on Public Policy for the Population Control of Dogs and Cats, animal welfare, sanitation, castration and feeding of companion animals was also disseminated to students of Elementary School I through lectures. It is fundamental that the professionals of the different areas, especially those involving health and education, commit themselves to the cause of animal welfare, so the present study proposed the collection of data with the use of questionnaires, interview and field diary, the data analysis was by the qualitative-quantitative method. It was observed that there is a lack of information about the Municipal Law that provides for the Public Policy of Population Control of Dogs and Cats, but most teachers affirmed that they consider animal welfare a matter of social importance and public health, most of the professors claimed to have companion animals which facilitated interest in the research, as for the elementary school students, they showed an interest in the subject, actively participating in the lectures, with questions and reports concerning the welfare of companion animals.
