Resumen
Portfolio Management is a process in which projects for the development of new products in a company are evaluated, selected and prioritized. Due to market competition, companies need to renew their portfolio, including new products, enhancing existing ones and excluding those that are no longer profitable. Therefore, companies are looking for methods that assure the best results on managing their portfolio. Lean Manufacturing meets this need as it helps maximize value creation, employing lean production concepts to manage properly a company's product portfolio. In this context, this work investigates how a company in the aluminum sector manages its product portfolio, seeking to associate to lean manufacturing and what benefits this may produce to the organization. Among the main conclusions, we noticed that the decisions related to the product portfolio are defined by the top managers, who do not use appropriate methods for the product portfolio management. Finally, it is possible to explore a relationship between lean manufacturing and product portfolio management as a potential path of improvement for the company.
