Resumen
Smart cards are used in many daily applications such as credit cards, transportation tickets and even soda machines. They are usually applied to a speci_c context like universities, companies, and passports from some countries. For an university to work properly, it requires a wide range of distributed systems. Among them, it could have for instance one for the library, other for academic fees and other related to granting access to specific rooms and labs. However, in most of universities these systems are not integrated in any way, requiring the student or professor to have multiple cards or ids. This project goal is, by the use of smart cards, to integrate several of these features, and making possible to execute them by using only one card, the student ID. The proposed system is a prototype for the implementation of payment and authentication functionalities related to university activities. This prototype consists of a embedded authentication station, a desktop payment station and a web application which integrates the whole system. In order to implement the system, one very important aspect that required attention was information security, since there is user information that holds sensitive data and can't be vulnerable to attacks. Based on this study, the system specifications were set and then the components suitable fo the implementation were chosen. The prototype development was divided in designing of the components for each station and designing of tests for validation and security. Upon completion of the project, it was possible to observe that the implemented system meets the requirements and represents a good solution for universities, after some customization and optimization for each of them.
