Resumen
This Final Course Assignment shows the design, construction and preliminary tests of a suction type wind tunnel with open return used for teaching and research in engineering courses. From a morphologic point of view, the system is composed by a plenum, a flow stabilization box, a tests section, a contraction, a gas flow meter with instrumentation, and a centrifugal fan. The wind tunnel that was built is a low-cost and functional device, which is also easy to use and maintain. Although useful for several kinds of experimental tests, the wind tunnel was especially designed for studies on thermal control of electronic components assembled on printed circuit boards. The preliminary tests suggested that the wind tunnel can operate in the laminar, transition, and turbulent regimes, once it leads to obtaining Reynolds number between 1,900 and 14,000.
