Resumen
This research makes use of the four manifestations of technology proposed by Carl Mitcham, technology as an object, as knowledge, as activity and as volition, to analyze how the cameras integrated in the current smartphones are related to the increase in the production of images in the daily life of the user amateur and what are the main uses of this type of image. Firstly, photography is thought of in its manifestation as an object, analyzing the development of cameras and smartphones to define the technological elements that converged in a single device, simplifying the process of production and sharing of images, based on Wagner Souza e Silva, Vilém Flusser and Arlindo Machado. Next, photography is explored in its manifestation as knowledge, being defined as a specific visual language, in comparison with other types of images, in its characteristics as a technical and reproducible image, and in its role in contemporary society, with the support of authors. Such as Roland Barthes, Walter Benjamin and Norval Baitello Junior. Photography manifests itself as volition through the user, who previously received information from the mass media, and today has become an emitter-receiver of content on social networks, realizing the innate desire to share through the opportunities offered by the device, according to studies by Marshall Poe, Clay Shirky and André Lemos. Finally, photography as an activity manifests itself in new and amplified uses, with an emphasis on photography as a form of experience, identity and communication, Susan Sontag being the main theorist, with her study on the social use of amateur photography, which gained new momentum with smartphones.
