Identificação de segmentos críticos da rodovia BR-277, no trecho entre os municípios de Cascavel e Foz do Iguaçu, no estado do Paraná

Abstract

Safe mobility of road users is a challenge in transportation management and engineering, aiming to reduce the high number of traffic accidents worldwide. Besides the loss of human lives, the high number of occurrences generates high economic costs to society. The analysis of traffic accidents is essential so that it is possible to identify crash hotspots, which is the first step in the process of road safety management. In this way, the objective of this work was to identify the critical segments of crashes of highway BR-277, in the section between the municipalities of Cascavel and Foz do Iguaçu. A total of 132 segments were analyzed based on the DNIT statistical method, using data from traffic accidents and traffic volumes for the years 2015, 2016 and 2017. Where 39 critical segments were identified, corresponding to 29.5% of the segments analyzed. Additionally, a brief description of the segments classified as critical, divided into 19 topics, according to their physical characteristics was made. It was identified as the main factor of occurrence of accidents, the large number of intersections, as well as other risk factors, such as long tangents followed by sharp curves, high slope of the road, among others.
