Resumen
The eviction of effluents without proper treatment is one of the sources
pollutions of aquatic ecosystems, causing drastic changes ecological conditions
of water. The effluent treatment is a solution to reduce the damage caused and
the biological treatment using biofilm has been widespread. This assignment
aimed evaluate the influence of two supports (vegetal loofah and polyurethane
foam) for biological removal of organic matter from domestic sewage using a
sequential batch reactor. The reactors were operated for 42 days and each
cycle has a duration of 48 hours. . It has been analyzed CFU/mL, MPN/100mL,
ammonia, nitrate, nitrite, pH, temperature, dry biomass adhered, polysaccharide
and microscopic and stereoscopic examination. The RBSB pH average was
6,34, RBSE 6,39 and RBSS 6,62. The reactor temperature was maintained
between 20 and 25oC. The UFCs of the heterotrophics were on the order of 105
to 1012 for the RBSB, 107 to 108 for the RBSE, and 105 to 108 for the RBSS. The
MPN/100mL was highest on RBSB for the group of nitrifying and denitrifying. It
was found, through UFCs datas, dry biomass adhered and polysaccharides,
that the vegetal loofah as support material was more favorable to the
development of the biofilm than polyurethane foam. The polyurethane foam
polyurethane foam although not favor the establishment of biofilm on the
imposed conditions provided good removal of nitrogen by the process via nitrite.
