Resumen
This study falls within the coverage area of Applied Linguistics and aimed at researching and analyzing the beliefs of teachers and students of Portuguese for Speakers of Other Languages about the role of the teacher in the process of teaching and learning Portuguese in the context of immersion. This research was developed in Curitiba, more specifically in a course of PFOL at UTFPR. We took as foundation studies of Barcelos (2001) about beliefs and language teaching and we applied questionnaires to participants based in Richards & Lockhart (2008). For the interpretation of the results we confronted beliefs of teachers and students in relation to PFOL teaching and learning, giving thus a qualitative aspect to the work. Thus, we realize that the teacher is seen, among other things, as a facilitator of learning. This emphasizes the importance of critical reflection about actions taken in the field of teaching and learning and about the acquisition of the language in question.
